PPWR – The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation

Prepared for the sustainable packaging of the future
At Fleximark, we are actively working to ensure that our packaging meets the requirements of the EU’s new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). The objective of the PPWR is to reduce packaging waste, increase recycling, and promote a more circular economy throughout the entire lifecycle of packaging.
The regulation includes requirements regarding, among other things:
• Substances of Concern
• Packaging minimization
• Material recycling and recyclability
• Use of recycled materials
• Documentation and future sustainability reporting
As the regulatory framework evolves, we continuously monitor new requirements and guidance from the EU, and we work closely with our suppliers to ensure that relevant information is available and up to date.
How Fleximark approaches the PPWR
To support compliance with the PPWR, we work continuously to:
• Collect and evaluate supplier declarations and compliance documentation.
• Review packaging materials for the presence of PFAS and heavy metals, in accordance with PPWR requirements.
• Gather information on material composition, recyclability, and environmental performance from our packaging suppliers.
• Monitor developments in legislation, standards, and guidance from the EU and national authorities.
• Identify opportunities to reduce environmental impact and improve the recyclability of our packaging.
PFAS and heavy metals
Fleximark has established procedures to assess compliance with the requirements of the PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation) regarding substances of particular concern.
Based on information from our suppliers, material assessments, and—where applicable—analyses, our packaging is evaluated with regard to:
• Intentionally added PFAS substances
• Fluorine analysis, where relevant
• Heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, mercury, and hexavalent chromium
The goal is to ensure that our packaging solutions meet applicable regulatory requirements and support our customers' sustainability efforts.
Documentation
To ensure transparency, we provide relevant documentation for our packaging.
Available documents
• PPWR Declaration of Conformity
• Producer responsibility registration
• Packaging specifications and material information (where applicable)
The documents are updated on an ongoing basis as new information becomes available.
Together for Sustainable Packaging
Compliance with the PPWR requires collaboration throughout the entire value chain. Through close dialogue with suppliers, customers, and other partners, Fleximark works to ensure high transparency, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement of our packaging solutions.
